A Nursery Fit For a Queen

I hope our daughter likes it too…

It’s true, nurseries are for mums. So it’s strange that I’ve felt so much pressure to make this room perfect for our little girl. It’s as if she’ll be born with designer taste, and I needed to meet her standards. This girl knows what she wants. Hormones? Nesting? Maybe. Or perhaps I’m just creating a sanctuary for our precious moments together and that’s why I wanted to make it beautiful. Take a look below at how it’s come together…

The Wardrobes

I’ve always loved the classic look of Walnut. There’s something earthy, warm, serious and timeless about it that I’ll always adore. Using this as the base timber for the room, allowed so much opportunity for layering, colour and texture to be added to the room. Not just while it’s a nursery, but for future rooms too.

Cabinetry Colour: Polytec Florentine Walnut, Woodmatt

Cabinetry Door Handles: Custom by Packers

Cabinet Makers & Installers: Packers

Customer Service + Notes: I choose Polytec as I love their “Woodmatt” range, it is melamine but with a textured grain embossing which plays with the light to make it look as natural as possible. Also, it’s beautiful to touch.

Packers were a great company to deal with from start to finish. The designer, Kendall in particular was very helpful in ensuring my layout was what would work for us now, and well into the future. I also nearly chickened out last minute and opted for a less warm Walnut, the Notaio, however, Kendall put my mind at ease and shared that she thinks blonde timbers will go out soon, and I have to agree. So I stuck to my heart, and I’m so glad I did!

Storage + Organisation

A clear space, a clear mind. When everything has a home, it’s much harder to make mess. I felt like this is something I needed to do for myself going into motherhood.

The Carpet

We chose Hycraft “Ravine” in Oatmeal. *Gifted

I wanted a wool carpet for the beautiful natural feel and properties of wool. Ie hypoallergenic being the main one, but also, it’s naturally insulating and biodegradable also which is a win in my books.

The “Ravine” style has a nice medium-sized loop which gives texture in the carpet, something I really wanted! while still tight enough to be durable against little kiddie hands. Oh, and it’s also stain-resistant. Need!

It’s the perfect base for all of the layers and depths of colours.

The Paint

We used our favorite paint, Tint’s “Family Album” & “Old School” for this project. *Gifted

We’ve used this paint throughout the house on trims, walls, and ceiling and the quality is unreal. They have some of the best customer services we’ve dealt with and their paints are made very different to what you’ll find on the market. Certified 99% VOC-free (safe for inhaling etc, especially for kids’ rooms), water-based, vegan, no smell, anti-mold, super coverage, hardwearing etc.. It really is incredible paint and we’re proud to partner with them.

The Furniture

A little bit of new and a little bit of pre-love is the perfect combo. I made the decision to invest in a good nursing chair, I figured I would be spending a lot of time in it. Especially while the rest of the house is going to be a construction site, a comfy spot to nourish bub was a must. The little side table hosts a night light, a sound box, and a spot for my water bottle or cup of coffee… or wine. We’ll see.

Changing Station

Space-saving was a must as the floor plan of this room is quite small. We designed a dresser to be included as a part of the built-in cabinetry. This will have multiple purposes over the years. For now, it’ll be a changing station. Complete with a battery-operated motion-sensor soft warm light for those late-night bum changes when finding a light switch is just another thing to do.

Change Pad: 3 Little Crowns, Vegan Leather Padded Change Pad, Nude

Styling & Everything Else

The finishing touches are always the hardest for me. I can design a space, but styling always leaves me feeling out of depth. The best thing about styling though, it’s changeable. I will be sure to be having fun with that as she grows.
